2010 Craft in The Country

With the continuing success of our Open day we are again looking at next year's event - already!

So please leave any comments, ideas that you may like us to incorporate into next years event. Some ideas that have already been mentioned include 1 session for the guest speaker, 1 session for me with a small tutorial and more time for looking at gadgets, latest fabric ranges & try before you buy areas.

Also perhaps on the Sunday a full day workshop may be made available in a certain project to enable those travelling long distances to get more into their weekend.

A few things that are a definate for next year are - we will be holding the Quilts of Love Challange again and all quilts will be accepted right up to and including the day for donation. HOWEVER if they are to be included in the display and therefore judging they MUST arrive at the Cow Paddocks Shop AT LEAST ONE WEEK PRIOR. This will enable them to be hung, catalogued, ticketed etc.

So if you like you can make a start on them now - remember they are to be either 50cm square or 100cm square and suitable for infants. They are a great way to try out new techniques and provide a very special gift for the special care unit and the families of sick bubs.

Specials for May/June

Well we offered it to those who attended the open day and now we are offering it to everyone!!! All homespuns except for white, cream, seeded and black are available for $5.50/metre with a minimum 50cm cut. We have lots of colours and are a lovely quality from Leutenegger. Pinks, yellows, browns, mustards, blues, greens, purples etc etc

Also Bamboo handles are now 30% off - that means that handles that were $7.50 are now only $5.25 - Bargain!!!!!

Stocks are limited though in both these lines so first in best dressed!!!

Blackbird Pie Quilt Patterns/Kits/Classes

 

Some of you may have seen one of these quilts in the Show N Tell at our Craft in the Country Open day. So magnificiently completed by Cathy. We are offering this quilt designed by Majella of Kookaburra Cottage in a variety of ways. This quilt is fast and fabulous and uses Layer Cakes!!!!!!!! The approx size is 63" x 71 1/2" or 160cm x 182cm)

Kits are available in a variety of colour ways and most moda layer cakes we have in stock have matching meterage. There are shabby chic, country, bright, modern, floral - something for everyone!

Firstly - Pattern only - $13 plus p&h

Secondly - Pattern & Drunkards Path Templates $36 plus P&H

Thirdly - The complete kit - $159 plus p&h and includes the pattern, template, layer cake plus extra fabric, borders & binding.

Wadding & Backing is also available at very competitive prices!

Alternatively I can come to your group and teach you the techniques involving the use of templates & curves!!!

New BOM Pattern - Stash Buster- Its A Dollie's Life

Yes it has arrived - this super cute new Block of the Month from Rosalie Quinlan Designs. It's a wonderful applique design - and applique BOM's have been a little scarce of late. It would make a wonderful quilt for any girl of any age!!!!!!!

There are 10 blocks and we will be offering a "STASH BUSTER" Programme. This means that we will be providing the PATTERN ONLY each month for $15/month plus P&H so YOU CAN USE UP YOUR STASH!!!!!!  

This pattern has lots of different "bits" so is ideal to use up your stash and either use a colour scheme or give it the "scrappy" look.

ALTERNATIVELY we are able to do up a starter kit special for you available when you purchase your first month's pattern. The Special Starter Kit would include 10 Fat Quarters for only $45 plus P&H which would be suitable for use in the Dolle's Life Quilt. This would be in addition to the standard pattern cost of $15/Month plus P&H.

So be quick the starter kit special will be only available while stocks last. Both programmes are available immediately - but hurry I'm sure this one will be out the door in no time!

Just thought I would share with you my excitement - we have had an exceptionally good week this week.

Our Craft In The Country Open Day,

 RAIN RAIN RAIN - 332 POINTS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD, AND  

  Little H gained first place in sewing at the Miles Show in the Junior Section for her little Quilt of Love that I showed you a few weeks ago AND

 Little L gained first place for his felt bag in the Any other Craft at the Miles Show and he gained Champion Boy in Craft under 12!  AND

 I too had a great day at the show winning quite a few prizes in the Patchwork & Craft section but I had 2 prizes I was really excited about - the first  was winning the Dark Fruit Cake  with my Great Great Grandmother's recipe which has been (to my knowledge) unbeaten in the shows when either my mother or myself has entered it - I bet our ancestor would not have thought we would be still making her recipe and winning prizes with it - mind you it is not a cheap cake to make - we think she liked her brandy as it allows for over 3 cups in 2 cakes!!!!!!!!!! So now this means I am eligible to make a cake to enter in the Regional finals which is in Charleville next year! AND

I was fortunate in winning the Grand Champion Exhibit of the Miles Show of Pavilion Exhibits with my Textile Art Landscape (pictured below) So it was lovely surprise and the award was presented at the official opening.

 

The landscape consists of my own dyed fabrics, sponging, bobbin work, burning, colouring with pen, free motion embroidery etc etc - lots of fun! It was framed by the lovely ladies Anne Nixon & her daughter Kylie Bourne from Drillham/Miles.

Now DH is in the process of starting to plant oats and we have a little mob of cattle out on the road (which in itself is a full time job) to give their paddock a break as unfortunately it doesn't rain grass!

To everyone who was able to make it to Craft in the country for 2009 -  A HUGE THANKYOU ! And THANKYOU to the lovely people who were unable to make it on the day but continue to support our business!!!!!!!!!

Again this year we had a tremendous role up with over 100 bookings. Gorgeous quilts and projects in the show n tell section, lovely quilts on display and the Quilts of Love really out did themselves. A huge thankyou to those of you who also kindly donated the quilt of love for such a worth cause. In all we received 33 quilts to donate - an amazing effort!

We had lots of goodies for retail therapy with plenty of new fabric ranges and gadgets for everyone to check out. Greg Allen from Pleasuresew our guest speaker kept everyone amused with tales of ladies "oiling" their machines with vegetable oil and was a wealth of knowledge on machine needles & threads!

The day went so quickly and before we knew it ladies were heading off some with quite a distance to go! With those travelling from Barcaldine, Charleville, Crows Nest, Jandowae, Moonie, Hannaford, St George, Taroom plus more!!!

Some of the prizes on the day included the Quilt of Love Challenge kindly sponsored by Westalee Rulers and was won by Karen Rafton, Meandarra 1st & 2nd with third Prize to Melissa Scriven from St George.

In the Show N Tell Viewers Choice Neitta Gosper, Dulacca placed 1st & 2nd with Karen Rafton Meandarra 3rd.

The Dulacca Needles & Patches group challenge again Viewers' Choice - 1st Neitta Gosper - Dulacca, 2nd Audry Nielsen - Miles, & 3rd Elvira Hair - Miles.

The Early Bird First Prize was won by Del Johnson, Taroom. Plus we had many many wonderful prizes throughout the day with more early bird draws, lucky door prizes etc.

St George Quilt Show

I have lots and lots to share but for now here are some photos from the amazing Quilt Show in the Garden that the St George group held. The setting was just glorious and a credit to the group and the garden owner! They so kindly invited me to their day and they are a tremendous group with an amazing array of talent - here is just  a little!
