OK so to make the heading make sense I will explain! Recently I was asked as a Regional Artist in the Western Downs Shire to submit an application for the upcoming Quintessential Exhibition to be held at Dogwood Xing at Miles Gallery.
The process starts with providing your CV, photos of recent artwork, an application form which includes outlining what you think you will try and do for the exhibition - ideas etc. These are decided upon as to whom then can put forward pieces for the actual exhibition. At this point I had been told that I and 18 other artists had been accepted and therefore could then submit a number of works but no more than 4 pieces would be accepted.
The Curator of the Exhibition is Ms Sandy Pottinger who is an Artist, Art Critic, Columnist with the Toowoomba Chronicle on the Art Scene and also previously was a lecturer at USQ in Visual Art.
So upon sending in our pieces to be jurored/looked over etc we also have to sumit with each piece an Aritists Statement to provide an insight into our aim with our piece etc. Now Quintessential means roughly that was make you tick - what makes you "you", values in life and things that are important to you. So I brain stormed for a while with my journal on different ideas and scribbled etc and came up with a few things.
I completed 3 pieces for submission - "Hands Speak Volumes", "Country Women's Beauty" & "Country Values".
AND I am pleased to say that all 3 were accepted which I was VERY excited about as I have since heard that Many were Not!
Now I can't show you them exactly until the opening (which is tonight at 6.30pm) but I will give you a little sneak peak of one of them.
The gallery is open 7 days so if you are passing through perhaps you may be able to call in and have a peak. We have some Very talented Artisans within the region and no doubt this will be another wonderful exhibition!
Not much I know but for now that is all you are getting I am afraid.
Stay tuned for more pics - or better still pop in for a look at Dogwood Xing Gallery - pictures never really do textile work justice!
Thankyou also to the ladies that I bounced a few ideas off and especially to Meridy who provided untold encouragement!
