Yes well another busy week preparing the wonderful presence of more crafty ladies. This week saw many including Di & Mandy plus the lovely Hannaford Ladies.
Hannaford decided to kindly hold their Xmas break up at the Cow Paddock Shop and so Kay, Jenny, Jill, Heather, Gwen, Marie, Karen came over for the day and the Cow Paddock Coffee Shop prepared yummies such as:- White Mud Cake, Almond Cream Slice (Gluten Free), Chicken Pie or Quiche with a variety of salads plus mini pavlovas with fresh fruit salad & cream or Date Cake with Butterscotch sauce! Oh yes and when calories were mentioned I suggested we could all go and weed in the garden and then fit more in!
The ladies always have lovely things to show n tell and are trying new things all the time - which is wonderful for a group to continue to evolve!
Unfortunately the garden due to the heat was not looking as good as it was a few weeks ago but at least it is greener than the paddocks!
This week proves to be another busy one with cattle work, picking up broken down printers and the like. The next few weeks are quite full on with school swimming, school camps, concerts, end of year activities and the likes and I haven't even thought about Christmas yet - although I do have my fruit soaking for Christmas Cakes! A bit of a family tradition. Both my mother and grandmother were and are amazing cooks and when entering would always win just about everything in the cooking section of the local shows - not to mention the cut flowers, produce, crochet, knitting, cross stitch, embroidery, leatherwork, sewing etc etc - plus then have stud or fat cattle and win there too! So I have very very big shoes to fill! But anyway the recipe is my great grandmothers and we all 4 generations have used it and it still won champion cake of the show on its last outing (oh yes I do make a fresh one each time - it is not the same cake - ha! Ha!
The only problem with the cake is that it makes 2 per batch and requires (depending on how heavy handed you are) at least one cup - and I have a tendancy to add one and a bit cups to the fruit and then another half cup to the mix - so you can see when using rum - this is one expensive cake! So I must admit I resort to sweet sherry sometimes!
Anyway best go there is about to be WW3 break out between the little ones!
Til the next time - Keep stitchin!
PS Hope to have some Hannaford photos for you soon!
